about

Interesting story behind this one. When Quincy first sent me his rough recordings for the songs he had written, this one quickly grew on me. There was something about his arrangement that reminded me of something from the Michael Jackson Thriller album. Quincy was always very diverse in his songwriting. He could write country, gospel, blues, jazz, funk, choral, rock, and just about anything else. This one sounded nothing like the rest of his song. He wasn't completely sure whether we should include this one, but I was absolutely sold on it.

After Quincy passed away, I picked up his music computer to try and salvage any recording he had made. Searching diligently on his computer, I was able to find every song he sent me except for this one. I searched every last drive as well as all external storage devices Kari had sent with me. Nothing. While I had a rough mp3 of Quincy's recording, I didn't have the individual tracks, which was what I needed.

I was really disappointed. In my opinion, this was such a great song and it really needed to be included. Not sure if this would even be possible, I contacted a keyboardist friend of mine (Chad Cox) and asked if he could listen to Quincy's recording and replicate everything Quincy had played. I was shocked with what Chad sent to me. He nailed it. It was about 99 percent accurate. Close enough that almost nobody would have been able to tell the difference.

When we recorded the drums for this, the drummer (Ryan Martin) played this almost tribal sounding tom beat for the instrumental section as well as at the end of the song. This added a ton of energy. It was not something I was expecting, but I loved it! Then, the bass player (Josh Walker) play a slapping bass part to go with what Ryan had played on the drums. This brought up the energy level even more. I loved it!!

One of the real challenges was finding the right vocalist for this song. I wasn't trying to find a clone of Quincy's voice, but I wanted somebody who I thought could to the song justice. After checking with several of my musician friends, Jimmy McNeal came highly recommended. Jimmy is a worship leader at Austin Stone church. I heard his American Idol audition video and knew right away that he was the right one for the song. Jimmy agreed to record for this and did an amazing job.

One the second verse, Jimmy had some ideas about throwing in some vocal ad libs during the second verse. This added another dimension to the song. Listening to Jimmy's, I knew that it needed some kind of gospel style backing vocals. So I wrote down what I was hearing and had some friends come to the house and record.

Of all the songs from this project, this was probably the most fun. The end result was not exactly what I had originally pictured. It was much better!

lyrics

Verse
Hallelujah, we will praise You with all of the heavens
All the stars in the sky, and the oceans
All creation sings Your praise
Hallelujah, we will praise You with all of the angels
Every race, tongue, and nation will worship
All creation sings Your praise

Chorus
We want You
We need You
'cause we love You our Lord, our King
